24-9-2011 Kai Choy's Rice (Chinese Mustard Cabbage)

The aunty in my office was telling me how delicious the 'kua chai' rice and of course I can't resist the temptation and asked her for the recipe. And this is my version of kai choy with some slight changes from the original recipe.

-after stir fry all the ingredients.waiting to be put it into the steaming hot rice.

-cook in the rice cooker.

-and ready to serve!!

This cooking is so easy and not so complicated as I imagine. Here's the step:

1-Cut and clean the kai choy. Finely shredded carrot, chinese mushroom, garlic, dry prawns and stir fry with normal cooking oil (1tbsp) and sesame oil (2tbsp). Once you smell the nice aroma it's time for you to add in the cut kai choy and stir fry again until the kai choy is soften. Put it aside.

2-Wash and clean the rice and let it cook and right before all the water dry up pour in all the stir fry ingredients in it and stir around by add in some sesame oil. Close the cover and taaaaadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa your kai choy rice is ready!

Hooooray!!! It's weekend!

Ah! Weekend is just around the corner! Tonight I will be attending a pre-wedding dinner and this coming Sunday is the dinner for her wedding. Although not much cooking I can do this weekend but I have few cooking in my thought...

1-ENCORE-Hokkien Prawn Mee
2-CENDOL in coconut milk
3-Ayam Kapitan OR
4-Ayam Rendang
5-Assam Pedas Fish

We'll see what is in my mind when I wake up this Saturday morning. See which is the lucky dishes that 'pop' into my mind and I will cook that.

21-9-2011-Golden Fried Rice

I still have some balance rice left in the fridge the other day and I did not know what to do with it and since my man will be coming back home late from work so I decided to make fried rice AGAIN but this time it's not tomyam fried rice although it came across my mind but I just want to make this fried rice called Golden Fried Rice.

I saw this type of fried rice at the hawker center before BUT I did not know how to do it and I manage to break the clue today! And the secret is EGG! ahh I just love it..Let's see what I've added in for this fried rice....shredded cabbage & carrot, crabstick & hotdog and I fried it in medium fire so the eggs don't burn / overcooked . The taste is AWESOME and you still can smell the eggy while you're eating it....

Tom Yam Paste

One of my ex-schoolmate has been asking me what is the brand of the paste that I am using to make my fried tomyam beehoon and this is the answer:

Ive tried on an another brand (I'm not gonna tell what is the brand but a hint for you to guess 'with a bird' as their logo) does not taste as good as this when you used that to make fried tomyam beehoon.

19-9-2011 Tom Yam Fried Rice

I still have a half bottle of the tomyam paste left over from my tomyam beehoon cooking last week and still have some leftover rice in the fridge so I ended up making TomYam Fried Rice. I add in whatever I have in the fridge...Cabbage,Carrot (shredded), crabstick, hotdog, bunga kantan (ginger flower/torch ginger bud), red bird eyes chili, onion and some kaffir lime leaves. I just throw everything in to the wok and start to fried and voila! My BF love it so much!

18-9-2011 Pineapple Curry Prawns

I learned this cooking from 'Nasi Lemak Lover: Nyonya Prawn Curry'. This dish is AWESOME!! But I think I should reduce the amount of thick coconut milk as it appear to be very thick for me. But it just taste too good!

Pineapple Curry Prawn

Saw a note from one of the blogger she has actually cooked the nyonya style of prawn. And I am going to cook this for our lunch tomorrow as this few days BF has been finishing work late and I had my dinner on my own. Since it's a weekend for tomorrow I'm going to learn to cook this for the first time...hmmm recently been cooking a number of dishes for the first time..hehehe

Anyway, I went to TESCO EXTRA today to buy some prawns and recently it seems they only sell the XXL size prawn. I've been buying the prawns in three different occasions and the price is vary each time I buy the prawn. But today the prawn is kinda big in size and it cost me RM16.99/kg well I bought 12nos of the prawn and it cost me at RM4.80..worth it huh...I still have about 5prawns left over from yesterday hokkien prawn mee and 6nos left over from last weekend tomyam poktek's cooking.oh no no no I am not going to cook all these prawns!!! lol..maybe I will use the 12 prawns I bought today for the pineapple prawn curry...the balance maybe to cook tomyam and to stir fry belacan kangkung ^_^

16-9-2011 Hokkien Prawn Mee

The usual me....Was watching tv this afternoon and have the thought of making Hokkien Prawn Mee and went to TESCO Extra at Sg.Dua to buy some cooking ingredients. Mom taught me how to cook this and I also added in 'Sengkuang' aka Sweet Turnip. This is to replace rock sugar (as in most online recipe they encourage to add in rock sugar)..Normally I will make a big pot of the broth but since I am cooking it for our dinner I just make quarter of the pot. And last but not least....bean sprouts! Also very important garnishing...water spinach! this is whoooppppiiiilicious!

16-9-2011 Bee Koh Moey aka Pulut Hitam

My first attempt in cooking bee koh moey and I use slow cooker to cook this and it took me only two hours to complete. In Penang they called it Bee Koh Moey in my hometown Taiping, we called it 'Oh Chu Bee'. I soaked the pulut hitam overnight after cleanse the pulut hitam and in the morning before I start my cooking I soak the 'sago' for an hour while waiting for the pulut hitam to ready I added in the screwpine leave aka pandan into the slow cooker then I add in the soaked 'sago'. After the sago turn transparent I add in the coconut milk then sugar and a little bit of salt directly into the the bee koh moey...and taaaaaaaadaaaaaaaa its ready to eat!

15-9-2011 Fry Tomyam Beehoon

I'm back with my this week cooking! I fry this tomyam beehoon before but it does not turn out to be good. And last Wednesday while I was at work all of sudden I think of making fry tomyam beehoon so I headed to the nearest supermarket near my office during lunch to buy the ingredients..I've bought a tomyam paste (this brand I bought taste so good,I'll upload the picture in my later post),beehoon, taugeh, bunga kantan, and I pluck few leaves of kaffir lime leaves from my office. And I make this tomyam beehoon for our dinner last night and it is AWESOME...I managed to find out the 'trick' to make the fried tomyam beehoon taste better and the answer is WATER...aha...here's the picture.

Tom Yam Poktek Part II

I've made this tomyam soup this weekend. I had my first try on this tomyam last Sunday during our lunch at one of the Thai Restaurant nearby our place and it taste so good! I tried to make this soup based on the taste and when my tomyam poktek is ready I realize it does not taste the same as what I have tried on last Sunday. I've grind all the ingredients but my tomyam turn out to be very 'clear' perhaps I've added too much water in it. But no worries 'ikan bilis' cube to the rescue, I've added one cube into the soup base and it turned out to be so delicious! I only grind 3 stalks of lemongrass...kaffir lime leaves, ginger and some garlic. I should have grind the galangal together but I failed to get one from Tesco & Sunshine supermarket today so I've skip the galangal. I added some big prawn into the soup as well with oyster mushroom, carrot , kaffir lime leaves and crabstick. I will try this tomyam poktek again this Friday hope it can turn out to be as good as the one I had at the Thai Restaurant last weekend.

Tom Yam Poktek Part I

We were having our lunch in this Thai Restaurant at Paya Terubong last weekend. We ordered Tom Yam Poktek soup. It taste so GOOD and yummy-licious!It's a clear soup and has grind lemongrass, red bird chili, kafir lime leaves, galangal, and a little bit of ginger. All this ingredients grind together and turn it into clear soup served with oyster mushroom, prawns and chopped coriander leaves. It has some sour and spicy taste. To my assumption they have grind the red bird chili together with the rest of the ingredient as I saw some chili flakes in the soup. And also they have added the 'asam keping' in making this special soup. I've tried to google the recipe online but I did not come accross of any similar cooking as the one I had.

It's about time for me to use my taste buds to do the cooking. Hope it turn out to be a good one. I have all the ingredients needed for this cooking stock up in the gridge except for prawns and coriander leaves as this two ingredients I will need a fresh one. Let's see this is going to be my Saturday project or Sunday project.

Fried Oyster-O'chien (Relau-Taman Bendera kopitiam)

I used not to eat fried oyster because I hate the oyster texture but two years ago I had my first try on o-chien at Jelutong market I started to fall in love with it. Soon after bf took me to try an another o-chien in town near prangin mall the road side kopitiam where they served the best koay teow th'ng the o'chien taste good. And when there's an o'chien stall open at the eateries near my house we had a try on it..and guess what this o'chien taste way better than the two places where I had the o'chien before. The price is cheap and potion is big.

Claypot Chicken in Dark Soya Sauce

I cooked this dish before BUT..it's Claypot Egg Tofu. After BF tried on my tofu he has given me an idea to cook the same dish but to add in chicken instead of tofu. So I did as he requested. The taste is the same its just that I've added in chicken meat. I also add some chopped red chili to spice up the cooking. I've did some slight adjustment for the sauce as the first time when I was cooking claypot egg tofu I realize that too much dark soya sauce been added and the color does not look good.

Jelly Mooncake Part 3

There you go..my green tea mini jelly mooncake. The taste is not bad full of green tea aroma..but its a lil bit too hard. Maybe I've added in too much of the jelly powder.

BLACKLISTED-KAKAK Restaurant Taiping-Koay Teow Th'ng

This restaurant serve a very good delicious Koay Teow Th'ng in Taiping. Today I went back to this restaurant for the second time after my first visit back in May / June this year. During my first visit there they've left me a very good remark and this time I planned for an another visit this time with my parents. But this visit has turned out to be a 'horrible' one and both my parents was saying we're not going to come back again!

We reached the restaurant at about 9.40am four adults and 3 children (my nephews) as usual the restaurant were so packed with customer. We waited for the tables and after 5mins of waiting we managed to get two round tables. The tables were full of those dirty plates and cups as the previous customer has just left. After everyone is seated I take all the order for my family and went to their preparation counter to order our food. Two people were infront of me but the lady who were preparing the food told the two people infront of me to be seated and her people will take their order from their table. So I went back to my table and was waiting for someone to clear the dirty table. My dad has called up a man to clean the tables but the man just ignore my dad. Then it's my turn to called up an indian lady to clear the tables she also ignored me..FINE (my temper is still in 'COOL' mode) after sometimes upon seeing the indian lady clearing an another table after a group of customer came politely I called the indian lady 'aka tolong bersih ini meja' she nodded as an acknowledgement...but she ignored me for the second time (this moment I can feel some HEAT on my head..but the fire is not very big) for the third time...I waved at her and this time she came with the pail to clear the tables...this is the time when my dad can't stand the dirty tables and he has clear some of the dirty bowls and this is the moment when the indian lady came with her pail to clear the tables....after 15mins

This is the time when a man came and asked us what we would like to order for drinks..We ordered 4 milo ice, one herbal tea and one hot kopi-o....10mins later...only 3 milo ice turned up. 3mins later we saw the man again as he was serving drinks to an another customer who came later than us...my dad called him when he walked pass by him and asked for an another where is an another 3 drinks. Surprisingly he seems to forget about the other 3 drinks..so we repeated the drinks order again...but after an another 10mins no drinks were served...then this time my turn to call the man about our drinks. My mom was so mad and he said 'ok I will bring your drinks over' 5mins later....finally the drinks turn up...

hmm...but where is our food????????????? 20mins waiting no one came to take our order! My mom saw an another couple who came after us has already got their food ordered. So my mom went over to their counter and asked a girl to take our order and at the same time my mom asked her why the customer who came later than us has already got their food ordered but when is our turn? This girl...has actually screamed at my mom's back that she only took an order for the 'later' customer but they have not served the food...while try to think back if the food order has been taken for the later customer meaning that they will get their food before us who arrived earlier? I called a man to take our order but he just ignored us...well...maybe they're just too busy....I called the girl which my mom spoke to earlier (the one who shouted at my mom)...2nd time...no one turn up....3rd,4th,5th time still no one turn out...1hour in the restaurant without any food been served to us...finally the 6th time...the girl came...when my mom told her about our order she just dont get it..isn't that tough to remember?? 2 koay teow + mee soup...2 mee soup...1 koay teow soup & 1 dry mee...+ 1 taugeh....finally she understand what we need. few mins later an another lady came and asked us what we would like to order..i was like DUHHHHH....5mins later the food arrived...my dad top up his order with one fishball soup...they served the fishball but where is my taugeh???reminded a lady about my taugeh she just nod her head walked away....asked the girl who took our order earlier but still...my taugeh MIA...this time I saw smoke came out from my head....i told my mom i am not gonna asked for my taugeh anymore...when we wanted to make payment they came in full speed....vrooooooooooommmmmmmmm....here she is infront of our tables...

My mom complaint to the girl about their service...she just shouted at my mom like nobody business...this time I am REALLYYYYYYYYYY MAD! I asked her ' Before you shout at my mom...let me asked you...where is my order for taugeh?' She replied I did tell my boss but she was the one who did not prepare for you it's none of my business! ..I said to her 'this is just a stupid excuses just to save your own ARSE!' then she stopped her talking and doing her calculation..total RM33.20...my dad gave her RM50 to change...I told my dad to keep his RM50.00 as I have RM20 loose note and I asked an another RM14.00 from my bf...total RM34.00...i stood up and throw the money at her...!!and told her to get off...as she was about to give me RM0.80 changed i told her to keep the change (hmm..i think i should only pay her RM33...)and cant stand to look at her face even for one second. Everyone in the restaurant stopped what they are doing and was looking at our commotion. I warned her off...'u dare to give me the 'shitty' service and i will pay you in the 'shitty' way and now u get off!' when we make our way out and walked pass by the girl...she just put her head down and dare not to take a look at us (or perhaps she does not want to see us).

very rude young lady....

Bubble Milk Tea

After a long search...and finally I've found the tapioca pearls for bubble milk tea! Yeah, I bought this at my hometown, Taiping. I just can't believe it when the shop I went to told me they're selling it. I was so surprised! I've been searching and looking up and down for this in Penang but I just can't find it here. My mom brought me to the shop this morning and found it.

Immediately when we reached Penang, BF has already requested me to prepare the drinks for him as he LOVE bubble milk tea SO SO much! So we went to MyDin at Bukit Jambul to buy the 3in1 Teh Tarik while we're browsing a new handphone for him cuz his old handphone is D.E.A.D...totally D.E.A.D...sigh...

Shopping with Mom

This morning after our 'horrible' breakfast (i will share with you my nightmare at breakfast this morning)Mom brought me to a newly opened bakers supplies in Taiping. The shop is located next to AMBANK. Mom told me she always does her shopping in this shop as they're providing varieties of baking needs. Well...I managed to buy a new jelly mooncake mold at the shop as mom bought one for herself too. She also bought a mooncake plastic mold, red bean paste, mozzarella cheese (for pizza topping) and few other items. I managed to buy the tapioca pearls for bubble tea as BF loves the pearls so so so much. One packet only cost me RM10.00 (pictures to be uploaded later). We spend up to RM50 for both of us. The price is very cheap and the service is good.

p/s: I can't recall what is the name for the shop but I know it's started with 'Ta' something something :D
